ABOUT COMMERCIAL ART COMMISSIONS
Visual storytelling for brands, publications, institutions, and campaigns.
I work with organizations and businesses to create original artwork that communicates identity, values, and narrative with clarity and impact. Commercial commissions are approached with the same artistic rigor as my personal work, paired with defined scope, timelines, and usage rights appropriate for professional applications. If your organization needs artwork for editorial use, publication, exhibition, branding, marketing, or campaign-driven storytelling, this page outlines what that process looks like. How Commercial Commissions Work
Commercial commissions are structured projects with clearly defined deliverables, schedules, and licensing considerations. From the outset, we establish expectations around creative direction, usage, and rights to ensure the final work aligns with your objectives. To develop an accurate quote, I evaluate projects using the following framework:1. Scope: Scope defines what is being created and how it will be used. This includes subject matter, level of detail, number of final deliverables, and intended application such as print, digital, publication, exhibition, or marketing use. Clear scope allows me to price accurately and deliver work that fits your needs without ambiguity.
2. Medium & Style: I work primarily in charcoal, but also produce work in graphite, ink, stippling, mixed media, oil, acrylic, watercolor, and select digital formats. Style and medium are selected based on the message you want to communicate and the environment in which the artwork will live. If your project requires visual cohesion across a broader campaign or publication, we’ll address that early in the process.3. Reference & Content: Commercial work often relies on reference materials, brand assets, or subject-specific imagery. All reference materials must be properly licensed or owned by the commissioning organization. I interpret reference material through an artistic lens rather than producing direct reproductions. Any required fidelity or compliance considerations should be identified at the outset.4. Schedule: Project timelines are established based on scope and complexity. Most commercial commissions are completed within 8–12 weeks, though larger or multi-deliverable projects may require extended timelines. Firm deadlines should be communicated early to ensure feasibility.Licensing & Usage
Commercial commissions differ from private commissions in that usage rights are defined contractually.Copyright remains with the Artist unless otherwise agreed in writing.Licensing fees are based on scope, duration, exclusivity, and usage.Expanded or exclusive usage rights are available and quoted separately.Physical artwork ownership, reproduction rights, and licensing are addressed explicitly in the commission agreement.
All commercial projects are governed by a written agreement prior to the start of work.Fees & Deposits
Commercial commissions require a non-refundable deposit of no less than 50% prior to commencement.Final payment is due upon completion and prior to delivery.Additional revisions, scope changes, or expanded usage may incur additional fees.
Payment of a deposit constitutes acceptance of the Artist’s Terms & Conditions.Getting Started
